East Sea

The Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK) began an aggressive letter and email writing campaign in the late 1990s,
all in an effort to get the world, especially map makers, travel guides and geography web sites to include the East Sea,
whenever the long-established Sea of Japan is found in print.

 Their claim that the East Sea has as much historical precedent as the Sea of Japan has worked well, as major book and map publishers,
educational web sites, along with this site and other reference materials now include the East Sea. 

In the end, the national pride of the Korean people is the clear winner.

동해

사이버외교사절단 반크는 세계지도에 오랫동안 사용되어 온 일본해라는 이름을 발견할 때마다 동해 사용에 대한 전 세계인의 지지를 얻기 위해서 특히 지도 제작자들과 여행사
그리고 지도 웹사이트 관계자에게 동해를 포함에 달라고 1990년대 후반 적극적인 편지 및 이메일 캠페인을 시작했다.
동해가 일본해 못지 않게 많은 역사적인 전례가 있다는 반크의 주장은 효력을 발휘하여 본 사이트 (World Atlas) 와 함께 주요 출판사,
주요 지도 제작사 그리고 교육 사이트들이 지금은 동해를 함께 사용하고 있다. 
결국 한국인의 애국심이 승리를 거둔 것이다.

We have removed Chinese from the languages spoken in Korea.
Regarding the Sea of Japan, we are now adding East Sea as an annotation in all our map products from now on wards.

■ 미국, 전 세계 공용 항공사 운항지도를 제작하는 Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. (젭슨사)

“This change will be made on an “as revised” basis. This means that the next time we print the chart for other aeronautical changes,
we will also change to “East Sea”.“

젭슨사는 우리가 제공하는 항공사 차트에 “동해” 가 읽혀지도록 개정하기로 계획 중 입니다.
이 같은 변화(동해 표기)는 개정판을 기준으로 이루어질 것입니다.
즉, 다음번에 항공사 차트가 인쇄가 될 때, 우리는 또한 “동해”를 사용할 것입니다

Jeppesen plans to revise our affected aeronautical charts to read ” East Sea”.

이 같은 변화(동해 표기)는 개정판을 기준으로 이루어질 것입니다. 
즉, 다음번에 항공사 차트가 인쇄가 될 때, 우리는 또한 “동해”를 사용할 것입니다. 
몇몇의 항공사 차트는 드물게 인쇄가 되기 때문에 우리가 생산하는 모든 항공사 차트가 수정되기 까지는 몇 개월의 시간이 걸릴 것입니다.

We have altered the map on our Hiroshima page slightly to reflect both names, according to updates that have been made on WorldAtlas.com.

as is clearly stated under the map on our site; so, whatever they choose to call it is how it shows up on our page.
Based on several sources I have seen, the “correct” name of the body of water in question is still debatable.
We have altered the map on our Hiroshima page slightly to reflect both names, according to updates that have been made on WorldAtlas.com.
