I am writing in response to your email to President Summers regarding his remarks to Harvard Summer School students on July 1. On Friday, as soon as he was made aware of the error, President Summers acknowledged that he misremembered a statistic outlining the number of child prostitutes in Seoul in 1970. He had intended to illustrate the comparatively rapid progress made in lowering the number of child prostitutes over a generation. He would like to apologize for any offense caused.

We appreciate your taking the time to write to Harvard.

지난 7월 1일 하버드 대학교 여름학기 학생들을 위한 Summers 하버드 대학교 총장님의
“1970년대 서울에는 미성년 창녀들이 100만명에 달했다”는 발언에 대한 반크의 항의메일에 답변 드립니다. 
총장님께서는 자신의 발언에 대한 실수를 알게 되자마자 지난 금요일에 자신이
1970년대 서울의 미성년 창녀 통계치를 잘못 기억하고 있었음을 인정했습니다. 

총장님은 한 세대가 지나면서 미성년 창녀가 빠르게 줄었다는 것을 설명하고자 그런 발언을 하게 되었습니다.
총장님께서는 자신의 발언으로 발생한 모든 모욕에 대해 사과드린다고 하셨습니다.
