Jeju Island

Jeju do is the foremost island in Korea in terms of size and unique climate. The island province consists of Jeju and its adjacent islands. Geographically, its relative isolation from the mainland resulted in a unique dialect and lifestyle of its own. The natural beauty of Mt. Hallasan and the surrounding sea make Jeju an ideal resort island. With the 21st century’s arrival, Jeju City is transforming itself into an International Free City characterized by the free flow of human and financial capital.

Mt. Hallasan is the main peak of Jeju do, a shield shaped volcano formed on the continental shelf in the Yellow Sea. It is the highest peak of South Korea (1950 meters above the base level) and the symbol of Jeju Island. The Hallasan Natural Reserve makes up of various arctic alpine plants and a forest of the Korean fir, which makes a graceful scene, and the Baeknokdam, the Crater Lake on the top of the Mt. Hallasan, adds the scenic beauty. You can meet totally different appearance of Mt. Hallasan according to the 4 seasons.

Jeju Island is well known for its sweet tangerine. The harvesting season of the tangerine is from late fall to winter. You can also taste the Hallabong, a kind of mandarin with higher sugar content and a bigger size than the tangerine, grown in Jeju Island. The best season for the Hallabong is from February to March.

Dear My Friends,
Welcome to Jeju Island! Hello? I’m Park Ja kyeong, and I live in South Korea. I’m 18 years old. Have you heard of ‘Jeju island?’ I write this letter to introduce to you the beautiful Jeju island. Jeju Island is located in South Korea. The most tourists visit in South Korea. I went to Jeju last summer with my friends. Jeju has slightly hot weather, but I had a wonderful trip. I will introduce to you the memories which I made in Jeju. Please, visit Jeju to trace my travel. Then, let’s go to Jeju Island to learn about the mysteries.

As they have maintained laughs throughout time, Koreans overcame hard situations together when they suffered from tiring work or ordeals. In the Hahoe Mask Play, we can see it easily. Most masks that appear in the play have very happy facial expressions. The shape of the mask’s eyes hang downward and their mouth upward opened widely.

1. Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)
It is located on the east side of Jeju. You can see the gorgeous scenery at one glance. It looks like a castle and the sunrise is very charming. It is too hard to walk to the top of the mountain. However, the sunrise view from the top relieves my fatigue. This place is the right place to see Jeju island at a glance.

2. Seopjikoji
Koji means a cape in Jeju dialect. It consists of the bow shaped Gojaut Koji near the sea and Jeongji Koji near the beach. Koji is made up of the suspension. It was a filming place of the Korean drama, ‘All In’ So a lot of sightseers have visited here. Walking along the sea, I feel like I am in the ocean. I took a picture of me at Seopjikoji. The sea line…, isn’t it wonderful? Walking along Seopjikoji with your lover, you will never regret visiting Jeju Island.

3. Miniature Theme Park (Soinguk)
This is not a Pyramid in Egypt but one at the Jeju Miniature Theme Park. The picture is so real, isn’t it? I felt like being on a globe at the Miniature Theme Park. 116 scaled models of famous buildings of 30 countries around the world are on display. You will feel like Gulliver in Soinguk (small people’s country) as you enter the park. How about going on a round the world trip in Jeju?

4. Jusangjeolli
Jusangjeolli is the form of a hexagonal cross section, a long pillar or triangle shaped as if it was cut with a knife. It is unbelievable that the Jusangjeolli is made by the waves. The miracle of nature is so wonderful. Jusangjeolli make sus feel the miracle of nature. Why don’t you come to the Jusangjeolli and take look at it with your own eyes?

5. Beautiful ocean
This picture is of me and my friend in the ocean of Jeju Island. The water is very clear, isn’t it? It was obvious when you cheat inside, for it was very clean and fresh. Jeju has more than 10 beaches. So the view of the ocean is surprising. The ocean fragrance made me happy and the sound of the waves made me cozy. Jeju is like the Hawaii of America in Korea. Visit Jeju Island and soak your feet in Jeju’s ocean water.

So far, is the trip so fun with me? Jeju is a more beautiful place than seeing my pictures. Please, visit Jeju and enjoy Korea’s beauty and taste.

Sincerely, Ja kyeong
